About this place
Built from 1664 on Kurte rock island, this jaldurg is the identity of the district and gives it its name. Massive curved ramparts, a concealed entrance, 42 bastions, sweet-water wells inside a sea fort, and the rare Shivrajeshwar temple with an idol of Shivaji Maharaj. Handprint and footprint impressions of the Maharaj are preserved here. Ferry from Malvan jetty takes 15 minutes.
